My interest in steamboat is less for the food and more due to the ra-ra atmosphere that is generated from friends/relatives dining in close proximity to each other. Waiting for the soup stock to boil, hurling generous toppings and ingredients into the steaming mixture, chopsticks at the ready to grab the cooked foodstuff..all the while engaging in idle chit-chat. It is really something unique and special to us Chinese.

Nowadays with work life taking up a huge part of our lifes (sad but true…somehow or the other…the Metallica song of the same name pops into my head…), there is a blurring of lines between colleagues and friends. A good thing. It makes work less of a labour. So there I was having a rollicking good time with my colleagues at a steamboat buffet.

This being a buffet, any inhibition at over-ordering was removed as we called for plates after plates of the steamboat items to be dumped straight into the satay soup stock and the normal chicken stock in the split compartment pot. It was pure gluttony at some level.

For the price of S$17.80 per person, we got a session of good humour and company with some food thrown in . I would say that that is a good deal.
