Superdog
Address: 1 Harbourfront Walk, Vivocity #B2-40/41, Next to the food court, Singapore 098585
The enigma of why hotdogs are not more popular in Singapore escapes me. I have a few theories of my own.
1. Hotdogs have been priced on the upper end of the scale in our country. Think the Viking Hot Dog chain which has hot dogs sold for S$4 and above. Think gourmet sausages you see sold in those upmarket supermarkets. The exception to the rule are the hotdogs sold at IKEA. Only priced at S$1 each and the sausages are going like …erh…hot cakes.
And now you have Superdog. Their cheapest hotdog, the Ripper, is priced at S$3.20 while their most expensive one, the Superdog, goes for S$7.50. In comparison, the most affordable burgers go for around S$1++.

2. The weather in Singapore is not favourable for the setting up of mobile hotdog stands. Any hoot, any budding entrepreneur harbouring thoughts about setting up of roadside hotdog stands could likely face roadblocks. This would be based on what happened with the recent initiatives of having proprietors sell food from vans.
Based entirely on my personal conjecture, the following events may take place:
- the newspapers announces the entrepreneur spirit of said person and reveals that the relevant governing body would be giving serious thoughts on allowing such a venture to take place.
- there is a subsequent announcement that the scheme, now named the Singapore Hotdog Innovation Track plan (or the SHIT plan), would probably be open to more people.
- hoards of idealistic people then proclaim that they would be very interested in selling hotdogs from stands.
- said entrepreneur craps in pants due to his losing any first mover advantage (the crapping in pants is not actually announced).
- complex guidelines are set that will only permit the selling of hotdogs in designated areas and timing.
- limited number of rights to operate hotdog stands are given out
- original entrepreneur doesn’t get a right to operate..
- the anticipated hotdog craze does not catch on due to the freaking hot weather in Singapore and the overly restrictive guidelines. The hooha over SHIT fizzles off.
Instead, we have to be contented with having hotdogs sold in properly air-conditioned venues.

3. Probably an entirely frivolous argument. There is a certain lack of decorum having to stuff phallic shaped objects into our mouths.
Anyway, I love hotdogs. We had the Bacon Chilli Cheese Dog (on the left, S$5.80) and the Superdog (S$7.50). The Bacon Chilli Cheese Dog had ermm…bacon, chilli, cheese and onions as toppings.

The Superdog essentially had every topping on the menu on it. It was rather pricey but as mentioned, I love my hotdogs.

personally, i didnt find superdog THAT fantastic a chain. maybe partially coz of the price. it just didnt seem justifiable, judging from the food portions.
i like hot dogs too, and coz of the lack of such in singapore, the novelty of the whole thing got me to trying it when it first opened. the price shook me. but i still decided to try. and, i must say, i was let down. if the portions were larger, or rather, they could have just slightly nicer tasting hotdogs, then of coz the hefty price tag would have been justified.

I used to love Viking Hotdog too, especially because they had nice crusty bread rolls.
I used to visit the stall at the top of Orchard Road every time I came to Singapore. Was sad to find it had disappeared a few years back.
Passed Superdog today at lunchtime. Didn’t eat there as the hotdogs looked nothing like as good as Viking.
