Gillman Seafood

This unassuming eatery was formerly located at the Gillman Village. Now that the Gillman Village has become a “happening” hangout for yuppies and the like, this establishment was chased out from their previous location (no doubt due to the high rental associated with such “happening” places).

The setting was simple. Get a few fluorescent tube lights (preferably in gaudy colours - pink, green etc etc), place a few tables and chairs in the open, construct a serving booth and quite magically…you have a restaurant. Throw in free parking and almost zero crowd and you have a receipe for a really nice chill-out place. I am assuming here that this blog, due to its pathetic viewership, will not suddenly create a huge throng of people to visit the eatery. I doubt there are many of such open-air restaurants left in Singapore. I especially love the feeling of entering a quieter world…one where I can get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It beats having to go into Johor - which carries with it a small but statistically possibility of getting whacked ….).

Our soup of the day was the Shark Fin Winter Melon. There was no actual shark fin involved in this - environmentallst can take comfort in that. The flesh of this particular type of winter melon has a consistency that is very similar to shark fin…thus the name. Good stuff. Highly recommended.

The Homemade Seafood Toufu was comparable to that of many other more up-market restaurants.

Vegetable. Cooked. Ok.

Another dish that I was unfamiliar with until I visited this place was the Three Flavoured Chicken or 三杯鸡. It was chicken cooked with (1) Ginger, (2) Spice number 2 and (3) Spice number 3. As you can see I am not a cook and thus I am unable to discern the ingredients that go into any dish. My descriptive powers are limited to the phrases..good….ok….bad….
The Three Flavoured Chicken was good. Even the fried ginger that came with the chicken was eaten up. And I can safely say that I am not a ginger fan.

Do patronise this place. However, don’t freaking swamp the place. I need to retain my chill out venue.

thanks for the compliments dude! I guess my main reason for blogging is to keep a record of the food I have tasted. Eventually, life boils them to 2 things - sustenance and procreation. I do not have much experience with the latter…heh
