Crystal Jade Kitchen (Parkway Parade)
Address: duh…Parkway Parade, 80 Marine Parade Road, #B1-17, Singapore 449269
I would say Crystal Jade restaurants are now as ubiquitous as MacDonald’s outlets. They have roughly the same menu, the same setup, the same food, the same profiling of waitresses (cantonese speaking aunties sprinkled with temp job workers).
I met up with some of my university mates. Normally the topic of discussion when we meet is on how we are going to start our own businesses…do our own things…earn lots of money…blah blah. On this occasion, the topic was on the perils of entering into the biggest contractual agreement in a guy’s life - that of marriage. The living together, the quarrels over why someone didn’t squeeze the toothpaste properly, or how someone’s aim is atrocious when faced with the daily ritual of dealing with the toilet bowl, and how things will be so different…the list goes on.
Over our mindless banter, we wolfed down our dinner. Which consisted of…
Some dish that was a mix of vegetables, eggs and century egg. Not bad. Although I was not very keen on century eggs.

The Crispy Ma Po Tofu/beancurd. This is my favourite Crystal Jade dish. Fried beancurd which you pour the savoury Ma Po gravy on before popping into your mouth. The gravy is the key to the dish. Minced meat, chilli and other spices mixed together to create the perfect compliment to the fragrant Tofu.

Roast Meat. A thin slice of meat, layers of fat, topped by a crunchy skin. Good!

Herbal Chicken or something. So-so. My friends commented it did not taste like what it should really taste like. I cannot comment as I do not know how the taste should be as it was my first time tasting it. It had a ok taste…heh heh.

The dish of vegetables and eggs actually contains 3 types. Normal, century and salted duck egg. I’ve had them in Crystal Jade before and Szechuan Court.
