Geylang Lor 29 Fried Hokkien Mee
Address: Coffeeshop at the junction of Telok Kurau Road and East Coast Road (near to St Patrick’s Court Apartment.
Foodies are defined by their discovery of new eating places that serve food that has breached the stratum of mediocrity. Let me present to you my latest food find. ok..it is not exactly a find…more like a stumble as the place is so near my house. And it is not really a recent discovery..the stall had been around for a while…they had reopened a while back after some renovation works….I just didn’t have time to blog it.
The Geylang Lor 29 Fried Hokkien Mee stall was packed on the day I visited. There was a long queue of people waiting for their take-aways. Among them, a huge hulking figure of a African American (I think) dude. I was cautious in ensuring that he had made his order first before placing mine. I did not want to be beaten into a pulp because of a mis-understanding over a plate of noodles.

The Hokkien Mee (S$3) was moist while the cook’s mastery of his flame ensured that the noodles retained their springy texture. The prawn gravy that the noodles set on was superior to most other stalls’. Their generosity with the ingredients of prawn, squid and fried pork lard in the noodle must also be commended. The final touch of fragrant chilli made the dish complete.
However, I must warn of a potential pitfall when you indulge in this meal. The many times I have had the dish, I would always experience some discomfort in my tummy thereafter. Not a full blown bout of food poisoning but a slightly unpleasant sensation nevertheless. I have not been detered though as I believe good food comes with a price (cadiac arrest..looking like the michelin man and good old fashioned diarrhoea etc etc.)

We also had the Carrot Cake (S$3). It was bad. Don’t Try It. Period. I guess there was a good reason why the stall is not named Geylang Lor 29 Hokkien Mee and Carrot Cake.
